Dance à la Plage

Founded in early 2011, this exciting, up-and-coming quartet from the heart of the Oxfordshire countryside have developed a highly unique Indie/Pop/Alternative sound with an ear for catchy melodies and feel good songs. Comprised of Joe Hamilton (vocals, guitar), Harry Elkington (vocals, guitar), Tom Sullivan (bass) and Tom Howard (drums), their songs are idiosyncratic and unusual, but also exuberant and uplifting, which makes for a compelling combination. Their name – which is the French for “dancing towards the beach” – is very fitting, aptly describing the jovial, feel good nature intoned in the songs. Joe said, “An individual sound, great friendship and an ability to make each other's ideas work is really what sets us apart.” The band have made a strong impact in the Oxfordshire area after supporting bands such as Kowalski, Pegasus Bridge, Lonsdale Boys Club, The Slowdown/Drive Like I Do and Morain. Their lively and energetic performances have entranced audiences and critics alike, and shows at AKA in their home town Banbury are already drawing in capacity audiences. Harry added, “We love playing live, whether it's in a packed club, or a stripped-down, intimate acoustic affair. It's that chemistry, that verve, between us and the audience that is so rewarding.” Citing influence from the likes of Two Door Cinema Club, Little Comets and The Maccabees – but in truth no more than a passing resemblance – Dance à la Plage have evolved a sound that is evocative and youthful. However, the maturity and craft of their songwriting reveals a richer, more sophisticated underside to their talents, which is evident in the strength of their songs. “...very catchy, you will be singing along by the end” – BBC Introducing Oxford Dance à la Plage released their debut EP on Amazon on June 25, 2012, which includes their two singles ‘Matilda’ and ‘Priorities’.
