Corquiéu is a Spanish group playing Asturian traditional music plus singer-songwriter material with some influence from the Asturian tradition. Formed in 1998, they began performing in the Summer of 1999 at the "Folixa de la sidra de Ribadesella". In 2000 they made their first recordings (in a garage); two of those tracks have been included on the album Xeneracion Folk, a collection of Asturian folk music released by the regional record company, L'aguañaz. In December 2001 Corquiéu released its first album, La barquera (again with Discos L'aguañaz) containing eleven compositions and an experimental final song in which they mix contemporary musical styles with their own style of folk.
