Companhia do Calypso

Companhia do Calypso [translates into Company of Calypso] is a brazilian band of the calipso music style. It was founded in 2002 by Mylla Karvalho, Lenne Bandeira and Charles Cill. Their first CD was recorded by Som Livre, a brazilian recording company. At first, the band was composed of Mylla Karvalho, Lenne Bandeira and Charles Cill, who together recorded the band’s first CD. Later, Charles leaves the band, opening space for Ricardinho, who entered and recorded 2 CDs and one DVD with the band before exchanging places with Charles again, who now recorded another DVD with the band, alonside two more albums. In 2007, Lenne no longer plays with the band, leaving them without a lead singer. After some search, they picked Simara Pires, who were a forró singer beforehand. Amidst this change, Allan Clistenes also entered the band, completing a total of four vocalists, resulting in the recording of one more album and DVD. In 2008, Mylla left the band and Rose Sales picked her spot, but not for long: she also left in mid 2008. The band is commonly known for its criativity in its shows: in their first DVD, Mylla Karvalho entered the stage by bungee-jumping; in the second, she enters the stage using an elevator-like apparatus wearing a phoenix costume. The band is altogether managed by Premier Produções, a brazilian company. Read more on Last.fm. User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply.
