Attention: Colepitz is now back together and touring soon! Check http://colepitz.com for more info! The basic formula for the equation that is Colepitz began in an old barn just outside of Portland, Maine. Over several months time, vocalist Rob Korhonen (formerly Rob Egbert) and guitarist Ray Suhy began to craft songs that read like a dark copy of the town newspaper; stories of family failure, despondent workforce relations and general boredom with the staus quo. The songs sprung to life, writhing against negativity and creating a pipeline for releasing aggressive raw emotion which was clearly a magnetic force in the band's live performances. The bond formulated by each of their musical inspirations produced a band that was unique to the budding landscape of late-90’s aggressive, alternative rock. Buzz was generated early as the band began gigging around the greater Portland area. Kids showed their support in droves as each show became more of an event than the one previous. Wonderdrug Records caught wind of the excitement and offered to release the full-length album in November 1999. It wasn’t long before national acts were booking Colepitz as their opener to ensure playing in front of a packed house. Whenever bands the likes of, Shadows Fall, Unearth, All That Remains, Hatebreed, Glassjaw, Staind, Vision of Disorder, Poison the Well or Machine Head rolled through town, they all requested the services of Portland’s most promising new band. All of this attention culminated in a lengthy tour of America with the power-metal force, Chimaira, in the summer of 2000. Carrying the burden of flattering reviews lauding them as the next big thing, the weight of enormous pressure proved too big for the band as they dissolved in 2001 after a series of line-up changes. The prospect of “what could have been” has lingered within Rob and Ray ever since. Fast forward to today, 2009 when “what could have been...” has suddenly transformed into “what is and what will be." Rob returned to Portland after nearly a decade away and coincidentally, returned to his musical roots by reconnecting with Ray. After a lengthy discussion and weighing the options over the course of several weeks in June 2009, the idea of Colepitz returning came to the table. Life has been kind enough to provide the two musicians with a proper opportunity to continue what they started a decade earlier. Prepared to blast their unique blend of atmospheric metal for all who have supported them in the past and those yet to discover them; Colepitz is back. Climb down off your ropebox, it’s alright to be afraid.
