The City Bowl Mizers are a five-piece Pop / Rock & Roll band hailing from the sunny shores of Durban, South Africa! They play an incredibly fun and oh-so-catchy fusion of danceable Rock & Roll and early Pop. Although they do draw loads of influence from bands that have been known to grace this sort of sound, they play a style of music that is both fresh and completely their own and has the ability to appeal to almost anyone no matter their age group or musical preference. However, one thing that they do believe is that nearly all of todays 'revival' bands focus far too much on the negative side of Rock & Roll, most notably the whole B-Grade Horror and Straight Outta The Trailer park vibes, and although they love the bands that have this kind of sound, they feel that there is a whole other side that no one portrays; a much lighter, happier side. So instead of Cheetah Print and Chainsaws, City Bowl songs feature content such as sun, surf, bikinis, Martinis, and pretty much just having a good time. A soundtrack to the Durban lifestyle. The Mizers have been rocking the South African scene with their infectious, melody soaked blend of Pop and Rock & Roll for almost two years now. They formed in the summer of '04 and since then have accomplished things that most kids their age could only ever dream of. Playing hugely succesful shows in every major city, sharing the stage with some of South Africa's most renowned acts, media coverage over both radio and television, and press coverage including a 5 Star review of their debut album Lights Out in Blunt Magazine and a spot in Student Life Magazines' Top 5 Bands Of 2005 and ' Album of the Month!' in August's edition of FHM. Having toured South Africa WAY more than "just a few times", playing GREAT shows to audiences of over 30 000 people at the Quiksilver World Championship (both 2005 and 2006), playing even GREATER shows to less than 20 people at the Winston Pub, The Mizers are truly a band that do what they love, and love what they do. The Mizers released their debut full length album, entitled Lights Out earlier this years, partially independently and partially through SONY MUSIC and have played over 7 Album Launch shows all around the country to promote it. The album can be found at indie record stores in both Cape Town, Jo'burg and Durban, and will soon be available at retail outlets and through indie distros, just ask for it wherever you go looking! You can also order a copy of the album incredibly easily directly from us for £10 (postage included). You can order the album via Myspace message to our page or by email to readon_m@hotmail.com. Your copy of the album will be sent via speedmail and will be hitting your CD player within a few days of your order. The Mizers moved up to London in early July (2006), and since then have been touring, and playing shows around London and all its surrounding countys, resulting in a dire need for dance-floor repairs at every venue they play. For the short time they have been in the UK, the hype surrounding this band and the responses they have been drawing from EVERY crowd they play to (starting with their debut UK performance) was previously un-heard of. There may be a good couple of bands creating a 'stir' in the UK Live Music Scene...it seems the Mizers prefer it 'shaken'... Sidebar City Bowl Merch Read more on Last.fm.
