Charlie Darker

Charlie Darker, the musical alias of 19-year old DJ/producer Evan Blair, is a product of the recent explosion of EDM in North America. Born in Toronto, the young producer spent his early years playing various instruments in numerous bands, but eventually traded in the guitar and drums for a Macbook and Ableton. A talented musician with an ear for unique hooks, Darker saw himself fluctuating between the sounds Big Room House, Dubstep and Electro, yet he finds comfort in this diversity. “With my music I just try to be progressing my sound at a fast enough rate that I can never get tagged as any one thing,” he says. “I try to draw influence from a wide enough range of artists that I never end up being an imitation of someone else.” After some initial online success, he released his first official single “Astromarx” on Plasmapool’s Houserecordings in July 2011. Charlie Darker was then handpicked by Mord Fustang to remix the electro all-star’s chart-topper ”The Electric Dream”. The track stormed through the Beatport charts, eventually cracking the Top 5 on the Beatport Dubstep chart, as well as the Top 100 overall chart. Further releases, such as the Hip Hop/Dubstep collaboration “Vader” with rapper Dante Leon and the hard-hitting moombahton rager “Deadroll”, successfully cemented his status as one of EDM’s most promising new talents. Eclectic Dutch tastemaker Don Diablo became a big fan of "Vader", and in early 2012, he mandated Darker to produce a remix of his acclaimed collaboration with Diplo "Make You Pop". Featuring his signature distortion and Big Room percussion, Darker's remix, released in March 2012 on Mad Decent Records, broke the Beatport Top 100 Electro House chart while gaining over 20 000 Soundcloud plays in the process. Currently based in Montreal, Darker has taken his talents from the studio to the club, conquering legendary EDM venues across Canada. Darker’s DJ sets, a diverse clash of high-energy Electro, Dubstep, and Big Room, have gained him valuable recognition as a rising star in the Canadian EDM scene. This reputation has allowed him to share the stage with renowned artists such as Wolfgang Gartner, Zedd, LA Riots, Mord Fustang, and Peace Treaty. 2012 is set to be a promising year for Charlie Darker, with tracks already cracking the top 5 on the HypeMachine charts, and new original tracks, collaborations, and remixes on the way. www.facebook.com/CharlieDarkerMusic www.twitter.com/ischarliedarker www.soundcloud.com/charliedarker Read more on Last.fm.
