Cath Coffey (born Catherine Muthomi Coffey) is one of the earliest members of British rap band Stereo MC’s. Their 1990 single “Elevate My Mind”, in which Coffey was the vocalist, was the first British rap single to reach the US pop charts. After the release of their album Supernatural, Stereo MC’s toured with Happy Mondays and EMF then went into the studio to release their critically acclaimed album Connected in 1992, in which Coffey featured on popular tracks “Connected”, “Ground Level” and “Step It Up”. She featured on the unacclaimed second album by Tricky, Nearly God, released in 1996, and has since gone on to work with him in order to produce her solo album Mind the Gap released only in Japan in 1997. The album released two tracks in the UK, “Tell Me” and “Say What You Say”. However, they did not get much recognition and as such, the album has become somewhat of a rare gem. Coffey released a single entitled “Wild World” for the Stereo MC’s issue of the 2000 DJ mix album DJ Kicks. Read more on Last.fm.
