Cardinals is a combination of the two local hardcore bands ‘Sleep Insight’ & ‘I Sleep You Dance’, attempting to breathe some life into an increasingly stale genre. Cardinals are the full-extension of what used to be Ryan Adams' backing band as a solo artist. Following the release of Adams' latest studio album, 2007's Easy Tiger, "Ryan Adams and The" was dropped from the official billing of the group, now simply calling themselves "Cardinals." Adams remains the primary songwriter and leader of the group, but they have incorporated several of guitarist Neal Casal's compositions into their live sets, and Adams stated at the end of the year on fan site message board Ryan Adams Archive that he and Neal would be sharing lead songwriting and vocal duties on the new Cardinals studio release, tentatively titled "Cardinals III/IV." A tour announcement in the summer of 2008 led to speculation from multiple sources that the new Cardinals album was eminent, but as of now, no information regarding its release has been issued. 6) An indie jazz trio from Niagara, Canada Named after a street walked nightly during long recording sessions, Cardinals has quickly moved from a high school jazz band's simple indie project to a name more demanding in their hometown. The band, formed of Levi Clattenburg on guitar and lead vocals, Myles Rogers on bass, and Nathaniel Rustenburg on drums, quickly garnered recognition from nearby promoters, landing support slots for touring acts Said the Whale, Take me to the Pilot and Paper Lions. Additionally the band recently secured a worldwide distribution deal with Alternative Empire (Crystalyne) The self-entitled, self-produced EP "Cardinals", released September 2012, is designed to be a statement of the power of simplicity that the trio have honed through years of practice and natural talent.
