Bobby Prince

Robert C. Prince III, also known as Bobby Prince, born March 12, is a video game music composer. He has worked for several gaming companies, most notably id Software and Apogee/3D Realms. He has created music and sound effects for Commander Keen 4-6, Catacomb 3D, Wolfenstein 3D, Spear of Destiny, Doom, Rise of the Triad, Doom II, Duke Nukem II and Duke Nukem 3D, as well as other games. Robert Prince attended UGA and graduated in 1966 with a B.A. in Psychology. He studied at Emory University graduate school for a short while, before accepting a commission in the army. After he returned, he earned a M.Ed in Counseling in 1972. This led him to study law enforcement and corrections. He later earned a J.D. in law school and passed the bar. After several years of practicing law, he started his career as a composer. He created music and sound effects for id Software between 1991 and 1994. Together with his brother David he started writing mainstream music and lyrics after that. He is father to four children, and has one grandchild. One can hear many similarities between his music for Doom and Doom II and certain songs of hard rock/heavy metal bands that were popular at the time: Alice in Chains (Them Bones, Angry Chair), Pantera (Mouth For War, Rise, This Love), Slayer (Behind The Crooked Cross), Metallica (No Remorse, The Call of Ktulu), Megadeth (Hangar 18), and others. According to John Romero, as Prince was previously a lawyer, he "knew the legal amount of sampling that he could do without getting into trouble" [1]. None of the bands have attempted legal action against him. April 2006 Bobby posted a new music project on his site. He said that the MP3 entitled "Doom IIV" is "...what I probably would have written for a theme to the latest DOOM". He was most likely referring to Doom 3. He also stated that "...If this works well, I will be releasing hundreds of songs in this manner." and encouraged fans to e-mail their opinions of the song to him. Read more on Last.fm.
