Atlantis Quartet formed in October 2006 and has emerged as one of the premier modern jazz groups in the twin cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul. Saxophonist Brandon Wozniak moved to Minnesota in 2006. He spent the previous six years living and performing in New York City and has performed in China and Germany. After earning a BA in Music under the instruction of David Baker at Indiana University, Wozniak toured with the Four Tops and the Tommy Dorsey Band. Beyond his work with Atlantis Quartet, Wozniak is a member of the Dakota Late Night Allstars, Sambo Makti, DJ Charlie Devanna, and Monk in Motian. He has become a first call saxophonist on the scene, having performed with Bruce Henry, the Sam Kuusisto Band, Katie Gearty, Hookers & Blow, and more. Guitarist Zacc Harris arrived in Minneapolis in August 2005 from Illinois where he earned a BA in Music at Southern Illinois University while working as a full time performer and touring artist. Harris also performs with the organ trio CounterClockWise, featuring Tanner Taylor and Jay Epstein, as well as leading the Zacc Harris Trio, funk group Vital Organ, world music project Tico Tico, and Monk In Motian. Jazz Improv Magazine says "Harris delivers a sound that is lucid, clear...providing rich-sounding accompaniment and well-crafted solos." Bassist Chris Bates has been one of the leading jazz bassists in the Twin Cities for more than a decade. In the 1990's, Bates toured with the original jazz outfit Motion Poets which received national acclaim for its music. Since then, Bates has been a first call bassist on the scene, performing regularly with Red Planet, Volcano Insurance, Enormous, and How Birds Work to name a few, and has played with numerous jazz stars, including Joe Lovano, Bill Carrothers, Eric Alexander, and Lee Konitz. His recent addition to Atlantis Quartet is sure to inspire. Drummer Pete Hennig moved to Minneapolis to attend McNally Smith over a decade ago, and has been one of the busiest drummers in town ever since. After graduating from McNally Smith, Hennig spent three years studying with Dave King of Happy Apple and the Bad Plus. Along with Atlantis Quartet, Hennig regularly plays with the Fantastic Merlins, DJ Charlie Devanna, John Starkey, Tickle Fight, Sam Kuusisto and has performed with Bernard Allison, Debbie Duncan, Katie Gearty, New York based dancer Sarah Michelson and composer Matt Rocker, Patrick Harrison, Johnny Clueless, and many more.
