Alexia Vassiliou (born February 5, 1964, Famagusta, Cyprus), also known as Alexia, is a Cypriot vocalist, musician, performer and singer who represented Cyprus in the Eurovision Song Contest, first in 1981 with the musical band Island, and then as a solo performer in 1987 with the song Aspro Mavro. After graduating from Berklee College of Music in 1985, she moved to New York where she performed for several years in many different Jazz and Fusion bands. She returned to Europe in 1987 to represent Cyprus at the Eurovision Song Contest. Her song, Aspro Mavro finished in 7th place. From the late 1980s and throughout the 1990s she recorded over 20 albums most of which became gold and platinum. Her debut solo album "Alexia" (released by Polygram) has sold over 300,000 copies since its first release.
