Jawara Haughton (Abyss Da Dark) a Brooklyn, NY native took an interest in rap at the age of ten. “Abyss" was a word that he used a lot when he was younger in his rhymes and"Da Dark" part was added by his eldest brother.The name “Abyss Da Dark” holds sentimental value because his brother chose the name for him and no longer does music. Regardless of that, Abyss' passion was installed in him by eldest brother. Abyss already used to write books so he just made the transition into writing rhymes. Abyss Da Dark cites his musical influences as his eldest brother Prim Diamonds, early DMX, Nas, early Jay-Z, Lauryn Hill, and Eminem. These influences cause him to have his music reflect “emotions bottled in a record”. His aggressiveness on certain records show his battle rap past. The most important element Abyss’ prides himself on is diversity, being able to do lyrical records then a song that is alternative. Abyss’ has dropped three mix tapes from 2007-2008. Opium, Opium 2 the Addiction. In 2009 he released "Forever and a Day" his first project with official producer Panama Red. challenged him to create heartfelt music. as quoted by Abyss "To Me wasn't a mix tape its special. Its more like a long Ep or something". In 2010, alone Abyss Da Dark has released two projects “Opium 3” and “From My Heart with Love”. Opium 3 being a project that Abyss Da Dark gave his lyrical outtake on unoriginal beats in August. In the month of October he released his long awaited second project with producer: Panama Red “From My Heart with Love”. Which continues to gather new fans and good reviews. Read more on Last.fm.
